On June 24, 2024, the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

This year's award distribution and award-winning characteristics:

Two people won the National Highest Science and Technology Award: Academician Li Deren of Wuhan University and Academician Xue Qikun of Tsinghua University respectively;

49 National Natural Science Awards: 1 first prize, 48 second prizes;

62 National Technological Invention Awards: 8 first prizes, 54 second prizes;

139 National Science and Technology Progress Awards: 3 special prizes, 16 first prizes, 120 second prizes;

International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China: 10 people.

Major achievements in the field of basic research continue to be produced, and the Natural Science Award has produced the first prize for 9 consecutive times. Young and middle-aged scientific and technological talents have become an important force in my country's scientific and technological innovation. Among the three major awards, about 40% of the completers are under the age of 45. Among the National Natural Science Awards, more than half of the completers are under the age of 45.
